Today’s post was inspired by a quote from Adele and if you follow our community along on Facebook then you saw me post it there earlier today. 🙂
I think the simple answer to today’s post topic is that a classy woman just doesn’t respond at all. She knows she is worth of far more than flippant comments and distasteful cat calls as she passes by.
A true lady just keeps on walking and ignores the whistles as if she didn’t hear a thing. 😉 Such immature boys who degrade women to a mere physical object are not true gentlemen and don’t even deserve a turn of the head from you. Silence is the best reply to a fool!
I wish men knew just how uncomfortable they make us women feel with their silly attempts to get our attention. It is not flattering, it is not a compliment, it is disrespectful.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you respond or keep on walking?
Thanks for Reading!
XO
How true! Though I hardly think of Adele as a lady, she'd probably give them a mouthful in real life.
So true! In Mediterranean countries it's very typical and I found it quite un-nerving when I first moved to Spain. My Spanish friends always used to say “you should feel flattered”. Being British my perspective was more like Adele's 😉
I agree that it isn't flattering, and I don't appreciate other women telling me that I should feel flattered. Besides, flattery is insincere, and I don't covet it in any form.~Tabitha
I find it very distasteful….and disrespectful to the lady as well as their significant other. Ignoring the rude behaviour is the best response. On the other hand, it is always nice to have a gentleman tell you that you look lovely, especially if done with a nice compliment to our husband.
It's funny how cultures vary, you must have had an interesting time living in such different countries. I'm sure it makes for many great stories! 🙂
I feel the same way, Tabitha. Many women have different ideas of what is truly complimentary and what isn't that is for sure.
That is a great point Wendy, it is also disrespectful to the lady's significant other. Thankfully there are still some men who can pay a sincere compliment in an honorable way that does not infringe on the lady's significant other's territory nor make her feel uncomfortable in the process. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Normally I'm all “it's disrespectful, I'm not a dog,” but sometimes you feel crappy and your day is the total opposite of what you had planned, so if some ripped construction workers take a second look at me and appreciate the view, I might just be smiling on the other side of my frown! Sometimes you have to take the pick-me-up where you can get it!
Thanks for stopping by, Sylvie! 🙂 I don't think there's anything wrong with a little pick-me-up and if it makes you smile on the inside after a rough day then to each her own. Funny, whenever my mom was feeling under the weather without fail, a man would try to whistle out of his car window at her, etc. She always thought it was rather amusing since she felt and looked her worst at that time so it would manage to lift her spirit. 😉
I generally ignore it or, if it's insistent, I give them the “death glare” handed down through generations of women in my family. I'm much more polite when a man actually asks me if I'm single. It's still a bit alarming when they stop on the street to do so, but at least they're trying to be respectful, so I give them an A for effort. Then, occasionally, someone will continue honking or whistling and I'll find out it's my husband. He gets a kick out of doing that to me. 😉
